What does Martin talk about?
Martin talks about his experiences of wheelchair life from the perspective of one who is always sitting down and rolling along, being 3 feet tall and 2 feet wide- which is ironic considering he only has one foot. He shares with his audience what happened at the crash site and his subsequent struggle to regain an identity as an individual rather than just a pilot.
Martin talks candidly and frankly about his thoughts and what drives him, but in his own fashion. In the end, it's a fashion that is filled with anecdotes, tenderness, wisdom and the ability to bring inspiration and motivation to spell-bound audiences everywhere he speaks. Martin's gift is his seemingly effortless ability to dissolve the stigma surrounding handicaps and disabilities in such a manner that leaves people feeling educated and more aware, and most importantly, `politically comfortable'.
Martin also shares his amusing stories of his post-accident days working for the airlines, not as a pilot, but as a handicapped 'mystery shopper'. This position afforded Martin the opportunity of observing people and passengers and their attitudes towards him as he traveled numerous flights across Europe, America, and the Middle East. The reports he compiled are filled with amusing happenings and unusual ideas. Today, Martin flies for a living once more, as an Examiner who tests candidates for their European Private Pilot's Licence in Southern California, and as a licensed helicopter pilot in North America.
